And the dashed lines are Katzenjammer Kids, and the green is Babar's suit... and yet even with all these hommages, it still feels fresh. Also "Pretzel" by the Reys, with a tad of Marge Henderson's "Little Lulu" thrown in. I love these new illustrators who look to the past for inspiration. Jonathan Bean's art for "The Apple Pie That Papa Baked" was refreshingly reminiscent of Wanda Gag and Virginia Lee Burton. More of these artists!
