Well, so much for my plans to have a nice leisurely week before Memorial Day. Here’s what it looked like in retrospect:
Sunday: Wiffleball in Prospect Park.
Monday: Henry Holt Preview in the afternoon (recap pending). Kidlit Drink Night with Gregory K. in the eve.
Tuesday: Harper Collins Preview in the morning (recap pending). Horrible shooting pains in the legs from the Sunday wiffleball in the afternoon.
Wednesday: Spoke to Micol Ostow’s MediaBistro class of up-and-coming YA authors about blogging.
Thursday: Drove to Amherst, Mass. to speak about children’s books and illustrations (recap pending – see a trend here?).
Friday: Still continue to recover from doggone wiffleball. Very embarrassing. Hope no one finds out what a wimpy weakling I am. Good thing I have you, old blog, old buddy. You’ll never give me away.
Kidlit Drink Night with Gregory K. of Gotta Book:
As per usual, I never think to take pictures of these events. Fortunately, I have people like Melanie Greenberg who pick up the slack where I fail. I’d ask you to check out these comely lads and lasses but periodically my computer likes to pretend that the files it contains do not exist. This is one of those times. All that aside it was good to see Greg in my native burg once again and the turnout at the drink night was lovely. With a steady rolling number of attendees we averaged around 20, I’d say. Special shout out going to Lori Prince, a woman I’ve failed to praise appropriately on this blog before. People, if you ever find yourself trying to figure out where to sit at an event and you find that by some miracle of the gods that Queens children’s librarian Lori Prince has a space near her, take it. I would like to hire Lori to come to all my parties from here on it. She must have a streak o’ the Irish in her, so charmed is her tongue.
Micol Ostow’s MediaBistro Class:
This was very cool. Author Micol Ostow (Emily Goldberg Learns to Salsa and how cute is this cover for her book Popular Vote?) heads a class through MediaBistro for up and coming YA authors. She asked me to join their group and talk about blogs for very long periods of time. This I can do. Many thanks to Micol for letting me yammer and yabber and jabber and jaw.
