New York Public Library has created a Digital Bookmobile. Maybe these puppies are common in the wider world, but I’d certainly not heard of one before. Pretty neat idea. Check out this press release:
Planning to be in Central Park on Sunday August 10 th ? If so, stop by the Digital Bookmobile, where the library will be highlighting its downloadable books, music, and videos. The Digital Bookmobile will be in Central Park (between Sheep Meadow and the Mall) from 10am – 5pm, introducing our patrons to the incredible materials available to them via the library’s online catalog.
The Digital Bookmobile is a 74-foot high-tech update of the traditional bookmobile. The vehicle is equipped with broadband Internet-connected PCs, high definition monitors, premium sound systems, and a variety of portable media players, all of which help visitors explore the libraries download service.
There will be giveaways, great fun, and a guest appearance from our very own Patience (or Fortitude)! Visit the Digital Bookmobile’s website for details at http://www.overdrive.com/products/dlr/digitalbookmobile.asp Registration is not necessary.
I envision such vehicles entering parts of the city where library branches are hard to get to but kids still need online access. Wow. Neat.

Various libraries have ebooks available for download (our Toronto library system does) but this sounds like an innovative way to get the word out to people, so they know about them. Good stuff!
Love this! I loved visiting the bookmobile in our neighborhood when I was a kid. This is such a smart way to get people to access the downloadable stuff. Very cool-thanks for sharing!
