Thank you for your interesting review. You wondered when I sent out my survey: it was the first thing I did. It's a technique I used in my days as a journalist. Developing and sending out the survey was the first thing I did in my research process. Since the book stemmed from discussions with grad students in my children's literature classes at Queens College, I wanted a much broader range of ideas, plus info re regional & ethnic foods for TK. People ages 12-97 responded from CA to AK to FL to MI to ME and in between. Also I wrote at length re my inclusion of Native American's experiences throughout my book, including the Wampanoag's year-round harvest celebrations, quotes from Gladys Widdis and Linda Coombs.

I've always felt it was a Harvest Festival from a long tradition of harvest festivals all over the world. (even in the bible) In line with that thought -- Canada's Thanksgiving day is in October, because they gather in their harvest earlier due to winter arriving earlier. -wendieOld , writer and librarian who just did a Pilgrim Children program at her library where we made butter and ate corn pone.

Sounds great. I always hate teaching the "propaganda" version, so usually skip it. This sounds much better.
