Why I Like Working in New York

Because sometimes, just sometimes, Shaun Tan will randomly walk into my library while on his honeymoon.

That’s why.

About Elizabeth Bird

Elizabeth Bird is currently the Collection Development Manager of the Evanston Public Library system and a former Materials Specialist for New York Public Library. She has served on Newbery, written for Horn Book, and has done other lovely little things that she'd love to tell you about but that she's sure you'd find more interesting to hear of in person. Her opinions are her own and do not reflect those of EPL, SLJ, or any of the other acronyms you might be able to name. Follow her on Twitter: @fuseeight.

  1. NO WAY!!! wow…

  2. That is all sorts of cool!

  3. Andrew Karre says:

Yeah, well, it snowed a foot here yesterday. (Okay, you’re right. Not as cool.)

  4. Actually, considering that it’s about to rain here in February, snow’s sounding pretty cool at the moment.

  5. That is beyond cool!!!

  6. But did you TALK to him?

  7. Why didn’t you call and hold him there for three hours while I got into my car and speed demoned down there!

  8. You really do have a great life. Of course, you could come to Nashville and see Martina McBride and her daughters shopping at Davis Kidd Bookstore.

  9. Jenny Schwartzberg says:

Wow! Do tell us what he said and did!

  10. Actually, we talked quite a bit. He told me about the short film he’s working on and when it’s slated to be released. We talked about upcoming projects, whether or not he’ll be making a trip to Ellis Island this time around (he still hasn’t gone), and when he’ll next be in NYC. Just a lovely visit, really.
