Weirdly, I know and like everyone in this video. What’re the odds?
Back in January I was approached by the lovely ladies of the magnificent Pacific Northwest SCBWI chapter about appearing in a l’il ole video they were producing. I get to play the evil librarian, which is why I’m able to fake it, in spite of my poor acting chops. Apparently in the apocalypse that is a world without Lin and Steve (the founders of The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators) my glasses have an inability to stay anywhere near the bridge of my nose. Also, my hair is oddly straight. Horrors! On the flipside: Are we really better off in a world where Laurent Linn isn’t a gigolo? Really?
Here is how the video is described on Kimberly Baker’s blog post: "When we invited Stephen Mooser and Lin Oliver, the founders of SCBWI, to our regional conference- we knew we wanted to do something special to honor them. You may remember a top secret project I mentioned back in February. Between conference going and conference planning Joni Sensel, Laurie Thompson and I were making covert visits to coerce a few of our favorite kid lit pros to act silly in front of a camera. All for the love of Lin and Steve!"
In any case, this is a great crop of people. And look! There’s my agent! Running a tanning salon. Or two.
In the animated trailer department, I think we’re finally getting to the point where picture book trailers are as sophisticated as animated television shows. At least that’s the impression I got from Let’s Do Nothing. Pretty slick. You can tell that it’s from yet another animator turned picture book author/illustrator.
An alternate tactic? Crafts! Lynn Hazen shows folks how to make a "Shifty card" in parts one and two of her video series. She must know that there’s a certain strain of librarian out there that cannot resist a crafty series of instructions. Clever girl.
And now I am pleased to announce that the winner of the Best Review Journal Video goes, without a doubt, to . . . Booklist!
Thanks to Cynsations for the link.
I don’t watch Gossip Girl myself, but those of you who know literary agent Rebecca Sherman would probably get a kick out of this clip.
I’ve heard this song. I just didn’t know that they created a music video of it. Now with the newest Star Trek movie coming out, Leila has reposted it on her site to my delight/horror.
It isn’t just the being-cutesy-with-the-blond bit that weirds me out. It’s the fact that his hairstyle is still Spockish. That is the thing I cannot take. Thanks to bookshelves of doom for the link.
Pairing well with that last video is a little special something for those of you who know and love Esme Raji Codell. Are you a fan of her books? Of her Bookroom? Of her blog? Then you should check out this video of her and some toys breaking it down Beyonce style. Ow!
This next video makes a nice companion piece to that mock-Twitter video I posted a week or so ago. It’s the all new Kindle 9XXD. Now bigger and better than ever before.
Thanks to Omnivoracious for the link (and, just as they did, I would like to warn you about the lurking body mist ad at the end).
And finally, the unrelated video. Y’all do understand that I only put actual honest-to-goodness commercials on here when they are mighty cool, right? Well. I think this applies. Helps that it’s British.
Thanks to AdGabber for the link.
