Video Sunday: Parrots and Zombies (but sadly, no zombie parrots)

Matt Phelan has come up with a particularly nice little book trailer for his upcoming graphic novel The Storm in the Barn.  Book trailers for comics work best if the trailer acknowledges the cinematic qualities of the piece.  This one does, and gives a great sense of the panels too.

Speaking of comics, Graphic Novel Reporter recently had a three-part interview with Shaun Tan, creator of The Arrival and Tales of Outer Suburbia.  The sound quality leaves something to be desired, but if you’re interested in Tan’s process then this is the thing to watch.

The man does a mean parrot.  Feel free to watch parts two and three as well.  Thanks to Oz and Ends for the link.

My dork quotient goes up and up as I link to this, but I can’t help it.  It’s two of my favorite tastes brought together at last: Broadway musicals and social networking sites.  Yup.  It’s Web Site Story.  Not embeddable, but still fun.  Thanks to AL Direct for the link.

This next video is just a thank you from our library’s president to the New Yorkers who wrote letters and campaigned to have our budget cuts reduced by the city and state.  It is filmed in my children’s room, a fact that I was hyper aware of when they locked the doors and I interrupted the filming by banging the doors over and over and over again in an effort to get in.  For some reason that version didn’t make the cut.

You will note when this video took place by how full the shelves are.  See all those fiction titles?  They are rapidly disappearing right now as the Summer Reading ramps up.  This was filmed just before school let out.

As for this next one … I dunno.  I don’t think we’re too far from it happening.  Just give it time.

Thanks to Educating Alice for the link.

And for our final off-topic piece, Zombies!  Which makes me wonder, why no great zombie middle grade books, eh whot?  Too scary?  Psh and piffle.  Bring ’em on, says I!

For about the first minute I thought this PBS Lectuals video trailer was something legit. I was shaking my head on casting mid-thirty-somethings in the parts of high school students. Finally…when it got too unreal…I got the joke.

Word, Bird. Get cracking on a zombie parrot chapter book series!

I can already envision the name of the first book. “Polly Want . . . Braaaaains”.
