The Children’s Literary Cafe at New York Public Library is pleased to announce its October event this coming Saturday, October 3rd at 4:00:
From Picture Books to Comics
Geoffrey Hayes has written and illustrated over forty children’s books, most of them picture book fare, since 1976. Brother of underground comic artist Rory Hayes, Geoffrey has illustrated everything from his own Bear By Himself to Margaret Wise Brown’s When the Wind Blew. His Benny and Penny graphic novels have been produced by TOON Books.
Jarrett Krosoczka writes and illustrates picture books that focus on the psychologies of idiosyncratic, often hyperactive youth. His picture book titles have included everything from the rocking Punk Farm to My Buddy Slug. Most recently his graphic novel Lunch Lady was picked up recently by Universal with Amy Poehler to star.
Matthew Phelan illustrated the 2007 Newbery Award winning title The Higher Power of Lucky by Susan Patron. His distinctive books have included everything from Sonia Manzano’s A Boxful of Kittens to Anne Rockwell’s recent picture book biography of George Washington, Big George. The Storm in the Barn is his first graphic novel.
The Children’s Literary Café is a monthly gathering of adults who are fans of children’s literature. Professionals, librarians, authors, illustrators, publishers, booksellers, teachers, and anyone else interested in the field are welcome to attend our meetings. The Literary Café provides free Advanced Readers galleys, a rotating series of talks with professionals in the field, and great conversation. This program is for adults only.
