Just found your list: what an incredible resource and labor of love, had to stop when I got to Ransome and tell the editor of the TARSUS journal!

I'd love to see a yearly appendix (if there isn't one already). Is Byrd Baylor's "The Table Where the Rich People Sit" in there somewhere?

This must be my favourite website so it's remiss of me not to thank you before now. I've got three book mad daughters, the five year olds have knocked great enjoyment out of the books from the picture book list, the eight year old has really enjoyed so many books off this list. I have to confess to being an ignoramus about childrens fiction before they started reading so this was a fantastic resource. A Wrinkle In Time, The Giver, Holes, Frankweiler, these aren't just great childrens novels, they're great novels full stop and have enriched my life too. It's also nice to see some of my favourites from when I was a kid including Swallows and Amazons which was my number one. That's why I posted my thank you in this section. Fair play to you, this must have taken a tremendous amount of work and you deserve to be very proud of yourself. I agree with the person who says this list would make a tremendous book. Thanks again.

Donna: I'll post every weekday, I hope. Weekends I need to use to catch up a little, but work days there should be a new one daily. Except possibly when I move at the end of the month. So February 26-March 1st there may be a break before I start up again. Under normal circumstances, however, I hope to be regular.

Thanks for reading!

Hooray! I too was off this week from snow, and I'm so happy to see this list. Especially PIPPI LONGSTOCKING and ELLA ENCHANTED, which were so very close to making my own top ten list.

Except for EDWARD TULANE, which I've been meaning to check out, the funny thing is that all the books on this list that I haven't read, I actually own -- because I've been meaning to read them for a long time!

CADDIE WOODLAWN is the only one out of this set that I don't like. A teacher gave it to me to read as a high-reading-level Kindergartener, and I found it boring and didn't finish it. (I also didn't like LITTLE HOUSE IN THE BIG WOODS, so I think it was mainly the type of book.) Just a few months ago, I listened to an audiobook version when I took ALSC's Newbery class, but I still wasn't impressed.

Anyway, I'm so glad you're doing this! I will be reading your blog avidly, whether at work or not, for awhile!

I have only now discovered your blog and this list from reading about it in the American Libraries online newsletter. How often will you be posting each 10 titles? I want to alert my other librarian colleagues so that we can discuss.
