Video Sunday: Music of the Spheres

I guess I always had the vague notion that designing books essentially came down to the 100 Scope Notes method of creating your own debut YA cover (with final results here). Then Abby (the) Librarian linked to this video showing how they created the cover for the book Blameless (which, with its one namer title, fits into the 100 Scope Notes method pretty well anyway). Informative.

Good music too.

Speaking of music, let’s talk about how necessary it can be in a book trailer.  I mean, you could go the easy route and just lift some free use tunes from GarageBand.  I’m not saying you couldn’t.  But there’s such a difference between doing that and tapping a local band for their tuneage.  Example A: Erica Perl’s book trailer for Vintage Veronica:

See what I mean?

I justify this next one by pointing out that it contains a library dance sequence.  Not off-topic then.

And on the off-topic side of things, another music video.  This one is more of a Rube Goldberg device OK GO video.  I don’t remember who said it, but someone on Twitter commented (perhaps it was Ron Hogan) that they couldn’t understand why any other band even bothers making music videos when OK GO is so darned good at them.  Case in point:

I know! Who knew so much went into making book covers?! (And also, who doesn’t love Zooey Deschanel? Nobody, that’s who.)
