Press Release Fun: Book Maker’s Dozen

You know how they say that there are more authors and illustrators of children’s books located in Brooklyn than anywhere else in the country (with Utah and the Amherst area running close behind)?  Well, somebody thought it might be a good idea to take advantage of that fact.

Me buddy the illustrator (and sometimes author) John Rocco sent me the following info, and I must say I’m intrigued.  You should be too.  It involves free wine.

Hey Betsy,

I would like to invite you to the first show of the Book Maker’s Dozen.

What the heck is the Book Maker’s Dozen you ask? The Book Maker’s Dozen is a group of 13 children’s book illustrators who happen to be friends of mine, and we have banded together to create limited edition prints of some of our favorite images from our books. It was a great excuse to get together and have group shows, group drinking and group mayhem.

We do all the production of the prints ourselves in my studio, so we are able to keep the costs within striking distance of your average parent who wants to put some beautiful artwork on their kids wall.

We are hoping to get a large number of people to our first event, which is at the Powerhouse Arena in Dumbo on Thursday night, Dec 2 from 7-9 pm. The BMD will be providing wine, a panel discussion, laughter and holiday cheer.

I implore you, no, beg of you to pass this on to everyone you know, and even folks you don’t know. (We are trying to get this thing off the ground with the hopes of opening our own illustrator-owned gallery at some point)

Hope to see you there,

Here is our line-up:

  1. Thank you Betsy!

John Bemelmans Marciano is also in this dirty dozen!

  2. As if I didn’t have Brooklyn envy already, this just pushed it over the edge. I’ll just have to settle for drooling over their prints on etsy … guess whose husband will be getting a nudge in the direction of a certain etsy wishlist?

  3. I just made that sound that the squeezie aliens make in Toy Story… “oooOOOOoooohh!” when I read that list of illustrators.

  4. Peter Brown says:

I LOVE getting together with all my great Kids Lit drinking buddies and talking shop over a few pints…but I am psyched that we’ll be having a PUBLIC get-together, with art and booze, at PowerHouse (one of the coolest places in the city). This is going to be awesome.
