Ah, the great biomes project. It happens around 4th or 5th grade in our area and it works like this - mid-December, a teacher shows up and checks out most of our biome books, assuring me all the students will have access to them. Week before Christmas, a couple eager beavers show up and grab everything else. Week after Christmas, the slackers appear and inform us they have never met/seen/heard of said teacher or the books she checked out and their project is due NOW and they MUST have biome books IMMEDIATELY. Which is why I have a set of biome encyclopedias in reference. We pull in a decent amount of money from copies that week...

I'm finishing my third grade unit on ecosystems and will be using this in class next week! The series Read and Wonder is another wonderful resource for helping students get the feel of particular habitats and animal homes.

Ah yes, the problem of near-rhymes. I once took a wonderful audio course on writing showtune lyrics, originally taught by Lehman Engle, and he could get absolutely apoplectic on the subject. It was either a true/perfect rhyme or it WASN'T a rhyme, in his world view. (And, at least in that context, I tend to agree with him.) The world, in general, is a less rigid place, but I'm glad to have the author's (and your) caveat emptor on the subject. Sounds like a spiffy book!
