Because of this list I picked up The Wednesday Wars which I loved and was so glad that Okay for Now was available too. Great books! Have already recommended both to several people.

Hooray hooray hooray!! I nominated Wednesday Wars instead (and I still have hopes for that, though it seems unlikely now), but I am deeply in love with Okay For Now and am thrilled to see it here. And I'm not lying.

I admit that I was one of the "torn" readers you speak of. I wanted to like it - I really did. The ending did bother me. However, the idea that a library would sell off a priceless and irreplaceable book in PIECES I truly hoped would never, ever happen - despite how hard-up for money it may be. And, after the library started selling the artwork, it definitely was far-fetched that Doug was able to get them back . . .

I was tortuously tempted to put this on my list, but I believe, for good or ill, in allowing a book to ripen. I will do the happy dance that others did not need the same restraint.

I believe I'm already on rugecord, somewhere in the digital archives of SLJ, as Doug's biggest fan.

I may be the only person in the world who enjoys the cover.

Love, love, love the book. But I have to say - the cover is a crime. For a book that talks so beautifully about art and the elements of design, there's no excuse for that hideous cover. Shame on the design dept or the marketing dept or whatever chumps were responsible. Thankfully I kept encountering mountains of praise for the story, and I was encouraged past the unfortunate packaging.
