This time I voted for Harry #1, to go with the first in the series, but this is my favorite Harry Potter book. For a little while, Harry gets a father figure! This one also came out where the books came out to a manageable length -- and it didn't feel artificial that this story took the whole school year.

And I'd forgotten -- soon after this one came out, our family went on vacation in England and snagged a copy early! We read the book aloud on vacation. That was the year that on the grounds of an old castle, my kids played Basilisk Tag (freeze tag).

Also my favorite. What I especially loved about this book was how the plot revelation had been set up from Book 1, with the very minor character seen from almost the beginning there and then in Book 2 suddenly was shown to be something so unexpected. The best plotting of all of them. And then throw in time travel, and Hermione stepping up so well (Emma Thompson did such a beautiful job with her in this movie and from then on), and I'm a happy reader.

This is the book that made me a rabid Harry fan and really opened my eyes to how multi-layered the series was! Still my favorite. Love, love, love the Marauders!

My favorite HP, too! In fact, as I'm re-reading the series, this is the only one that doesn't make me froth at the mouth at least once.

Woo-hoo! This is far and away my favorite Potter book, and I'm thrilled to see it appear so high on this list. And that Australian cover is gorgeous!

Betsy, you really need a post just for speculation comments.

I'm pretty sure I have the top 10.

With another Harry Making the list I'm assuming Nancy Drew, Wind and the Willows, and Lightening Thief dropped off the list altogether.

It will be interesting to see which book had the longest fall from last time around. I'm guessing poor old Percy.
