Had the pleasure of hearing from Peter Brown himself at the ALSC Symposium last week. Wow! The man is funny and totally understands the picturebook. Loved hearing about what goes through his mind when he is creating the art for his books. (Can you imagine being the new kid on the block and speaking before an audience that included Denise Fleming, Eric Rohmann and Kevin Henkes? Brown was awesome.) I was skeptical of a book about carrots, but one reading won me over and now I own my own autographed copy. Betsy, you nailed it.

I read this one standing in the bookstore. Nice pacing! The black and orange is really gorgeous. And thanks for the Peter Brown video–now every time I see him I’ll imagine him being stalked by eggplants that are tired of being turned into eggplant parmesan.
