I was blessed with grandmothers and a mother who could, and did, knit and sew. In general, it was a blessing. Until the 70s, when one grandma started sending me double knit pants with elastic waists (I vividly remember the lime green pair) and matching vests. I was expected to wear the outfits to school at least once. In junior high, no less. To teach me gratitude. Now I sew gifts for my friend's children.
