Fuse 8 n’ Kate: The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything by Linda Williams

LittleOldLadyIf you’ve ever listened to our podcast you’ll know that when it comes to readalouds, that particular kind of a picture book is a little difficult to convey when Kate reads it. I also love that Kate interpreted the cover of today’s book, before reading it, as a story about a gigantic, 24-ft tall pumpkin rolling towards a little old lady, Indiana Jones boulder-style. In the course of our conversation, I reveal who actually made this book (not something widely known), the problem of naked ghosts, suits of armor fighting Nazis, and something that at one point causes Kate to say, “You are an idiot. I hope the gloves choke you to death!”

Listen to the whole show here on Soundcloud or download it through iTunes, Stitcher, Google Play, or your preferred method of podcast selection.

Source Notes:

– Here’s the haunted house I alluded to that’s close to Kate’s apartment. And if you peer closely you can see the animatronic witches I’ve been seeing everywhere.

– The stupid animatronic witches in question:

– Would you call this woman old? Either she’s Botoxing like it’s nobody’s business, or this lady is 42 years of age. So, right off, the title itself is a misnomer.

– Wait a minute . . . key in the lock, wrinkled rug, no hot pad for her teakettle… this is a woman who LIVES ON THE EDGE!!!

LittleOldLady2

What Was I Scared Of? by Dr. Seuss had its own haunted pants. Compare and contrast!

LittleOldLady5WhatWasIScaredOf

– I think Kate’s right and she really is into the pants . . .

LittleOldLady3

– . . . but she is having none of that shirt’s business.

– Am I the only who truly, and honestly, loves the ending of the film of Bedknobs & Broomsticks? Let’s watch it!

– Kate’s been kind enough to share her rum cake recipe with us all. It did look amazing, sitting there on her counter when I arrived. I was very good. I didn’t even take a bite. Find the recipe here.

– Meanwhile, here is the evidence that you CAN ride an ostrich sidesaddle. This was what I found in my research:
