The Brackets Revealed!
In the comments of the Contenders Announcement we mentioned that we’d decided to go for a different bracket configuration this year and asked you to speculate a bit on what that might be. You came up with some great ideas which we will keep in mind for the future. Meanwhile, we were tickled to see that Nina figured out this year’s bracket! It is now up on the bracket page for you study as you wait for us to begin announcing the judges on February 6th. But below is a very fun and different way of seeing the matches done by our graphics genius and SLJ’s Art Director Mark Tuchman.

About Battle Commander
The Battle Commander is the nom de guerre for children’s literature enthusiasts Monica Edinger and Roxanne Hsu Feldman, fourth grade teacher and middle school librarian at the Dalton School in New York City and Jonathan Hunt, the County Schools Librarian at the San Diego County Office of Education. All three have served on the Newbery Committee as well as other book selection and award committees. They are also published authors of books, articles, and reviews in publications such as the New York Times, School Library Journal, and the Horn Book Magazine.
