The 2016 Brackets

AllBattlingBooksPairs-400px

And here we are with this year’s brackets. (We will let you know about the judges’ assignments once we’ve revealed them all –on 2/24.) Being traditionalists, we stayed with our mostly-usual alphabetical order by title. So, what do you all think? Which eight will advance to Round 2?

For those of you who registered for the previous blank bracket you will be getting a notice for the updated one. Going forward as we update the brackets, you will be notified. And if you haven’t registered yet for these, just go here to do so.

Thanks to Mark Tuchman for the adorable gif at the top of the post.

  1. Alphabetical order has given us a gift and a terrible battle in GONE CRAZY vs. GOODBYE STRANGER, two of the year’s realest books about all the separation, change, and longing to move forward/backward of those early-adolescent years. GONE CRAZY would be *my* winner in that bracket, but I am very interested to see who has to make the decision and how they do it.

  2. EXACTLY!! Gone Crazy vs Goodbye Stranger is such a mean thing to do to some poor judge *rubs hands*

  3. These match-ups are rough, but I agree: Gone Crazy Vs. Goodbye Stranger is downright diabolical. Though I imagine if they were in separate brackets, they’d eventually go up against each other anyway.

I know which books I’d like to win in each category!

  4. Did anyone catch the typo on the PDF bracket? It says Sympathy for the City of the Dead instead of Symphony.

    • Hi Wendy,

Yes, we did catch that! Thanks for your comment. The next PDF (available after Wednesday) will be correct. Or you can re-download now. The link should have the updated, typo-free bracket.

      Apologies for that!

  5. Predictions (even though I’m NEVER even close on these):

8 second round titles will be:
    – BOYS WHO CHALLENGED HITLER
    – ECHO
    – GOODBYE STRANGER
    – THE HIRED GIRL
    – MOST DANGEROUS
    – NEST
    – RHYTHM RIDE
    – X: A NOVEL

    My next four are:
    – ECHO
    – GOODBYE STRANGER
    – NEST
    – RHYTHM RIDE

    My final two are:
    – GOODBYE STRANGER
    – NEST

    My winner:
    – NEST

As I said, not even close in the past, but fun to predict either way!
