(via) Library to use collection agency for overdue materials
The word "collection" is taking on new meaning at the Public Library of Cincinnati & Hamilton County in Ohio. They are taking some drastic measures to recover overdue library books by having collection agencies do the work for them.
According to the Price Hill Press, "Beginning July 5, the Public Library of Cincinnati & Hamilton County will use the services of Unique Management Services to handle overdue materials or fines exceeding $25 or more."
While the goal of the Unique Management Services is to NOT alienate patrons with this approach of recovering overdue materials, my fear is that they will do just that. Once someone’s credit report is on the line, books and materials will be too…your thoughts.
