Daryl Grabarek From Curriculum Connections Reports From AASL

Librarians, publishers, and vendors had an opportunity to meet School Library Journal’s new editor-in-chief, Brian Kenney, over breakfast at AASL. Attendees learned a little about Kenney’s career path before arriving at SLJ–from high school librarian to manager at Brooklyn Public Library’s Central Library to editor of Library Journal’s netconnect. (Not to mention a stint at Studio 54, Brian, who knew?). Kenney also fielded some questions about the magazine’s direction, Web site, weekly e-mail alerts, and the next summit (tentatively scheduled for fall ’06). Fueled by eggs and coffee, the group didn’t shy from asking some tough questions about SLJ’s role in serving the needs of both public and school librarians, and making a few requests – including one to provide more links from the magazine’s Web site to other publications.–Daryl Grabarek

  1. Appreciative Interest says:

I greatly appreciated the breakfast with SLJ and meeting Brian and staff. Sorry LuAnn wasn’t at the meeting because she is wonderful. Even more impressive was that everyone was so “sharp” for such an early hour. This wasn’t an occasion when people pulled their punches, but they asked the very tough questions that made you squirm. Expectations are raised and librarians are watching…. excellent…
