"The University Place School District removed Hartinger's novel "Geography Club" from its libraries because the superintendent fears it could encourage teens to do something dangerous, specifically to meet in person some adult pervert they hooked up with on the Internet." It seems like the teens in this School District aren't getting the benefit of the doubt at all. Here's a suggestion, instead of removing the Geography Club from the bookshelves, wouldn't it be more prudent to use the excerpts that refer to the Internet dangers as "teachable moments." Educators now have a platform to explain to young people the potential dangers that exist online.
