See How Your City Ranks

How literate is your city?  Jack Miller from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater authored a study of the most literate cities. The goal was to measure statistical data on the public's passion for reading.  "The information [from 2004]was compiled from U.S. Census data, newspaper circulation rates, magazine publishing, educational attainment levels, library resources and booksellers" of the 79 researched cities; which is up from the last study done in 2003. (How well does your city cultivate literate,'bookish' behavior in its citizenry?)
Akron deserves a "hats off" for its commitment to libraries; along with Kansas, MO and St. Louis, MO. (via Adventures in Library Land)
