All this week I will posting pieces from my diversity workshop held yesterday at the Lycee Francais School in NYC (ahhh what a beautiful school!). Anyway, there were some powerful speakers and great ideas being exchanged on the need for private schools to become more inclusive. What I like to do at conferences (when I'm presenting) is allow for dialogue and then present a solution…hence, the toolkit idea emerges. Also, I'd be disingenuous if I didn't point out that Doug Johnson has created the bible for workshop presenters. His Top Ten Secrets for a Successful Workshop is a great resource.
So here's piece #1 from my toolkit session. I asked attendees to analyze a few quotes (here's one of them) which led to a great discussion. "It’s time for inventing new forms of learning. It’s time for addressing the entire learning environment in new ways. This is the only way in which we can get true diversity in the work place and in life." –Seymour Papert
Readers, do you agree with this?
