Long Lake Library and the Adirondack Museum

Like I said yesterday, The Adirondacks is bear country. And just yesterday after I posted about my hunt for libraries (and not bears), I stumbled upon this bear, right outside the Long Lake Library, located in Long Lake, NY. —>
Long Lake LibraryAmy and Bear Friend (Long Lake Library)I actually visited this library years ago and was pleasantly surprised when I read about a major donation they received back in 2007. "Marylou Whitney and John Hendrickson of Whitney Park in Long Lake, New York have helped endow the Long Lake Library with a $250,000 donation.  In recognition of the largest gift in the Library’s history, the Board has renamed the Library, “The Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney Long Lake Library”, in honor of Whitney’s late husband." (via Long Lake Library blog

It’s libraries like these that I like to visit because they are staples in their tiny, close-knitted communities. They also serve as a valuable resource for visitors like me, and for locals as well, who are searching for good books, and events happening to help fill their summer days.

*A side note*

After checking my e-mails yesterday, I realized that the fine folks over at the Adirondack Museum are now following me on Twitter. The AM is also a wonderful tourist attraction to visit if you are ever up in this neck-of-the-woods

Tomorrow, or maybe later today, I will share my photo journal with you.

  1. You sound like you are having a great time. I love to hear of your exploits. Any different kinds of books? Maybe I will plan a trip there soon, I hope. Wish my favorite lady happy anniv.
