Writers Against Racism: Moving Mountains in Denver

I am just a few hours away from boarding a plane to Denver, CO., to attend the 2009 People of Color Conference  – whose theme – Moving Mountains: Mining Within, reminds me of our W.A.R. series.

While it appears that we are trying to move mountains, all in an effort to raise awareness of the racism that still exists for authors and educators, I do believe the mountains are indeed being moved.  Sometimes we don’t see it. Sometimes it seems like are efforts are fruitless. Sometimes we may even THINK of giving up, and then something happens. A new book, by a new author gets delivered to a new school. THAT IS MOVEMENT and it matters.

So my goal, if the technology is working on my side (you know how that is), is to send blog postings about the conference, here, and to my Twitter account. Something of particular interest to me, as I peruse through the schedule of events, is a screening of the documentary film, The Prep School Negro by Andre’ Robert Lee.  Here’s the trailer.

Now, it’s time to pack and please remind me to bring my power cord. *NOTE TO SELF*
