The late Virginia Hamilton’s husband, Arnold Adoff, autographed a lovely birthday message in his beautiful book, illustrated by R. Gregory Christie, ROOTS and BLUES a Celebration (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt NY & Boston 2011).
While I’m in the process of reviewing it, it came to my mailbox, coincidentally, on the same day I heard of the sad news of music legend, Nile Rodgers, and his battle with an aggressive form of cancer.
No matter what our musical interests are, we all know Nile’s songs: We Are Family and Good Times, to name a few. We grew up with his songs and they will live on within the fabric of our families. Let’s all say some prayers for him, since he spent his life giving us GOOD TIMES.
We often forget how much poetry plays a roll in our day to day lives. Poetry has its own story to tell. Especially when it’s mixed with music. Arnold’s book will reveal the history of what makes poetry… great.
“Nile Gregory Rodgers is an American musician, composer, arranger, and guitarist, and is considered one of the most influential music producers in the history of popular music.” (Comes via Nile Rodgers bio)
