Comics come out strong this week, with a new manga debuting as well. The licensed comics make a good show with Sonic the Hedgehog, Cartoon Network Action Pack and Scooby Doo all coming out. Marvel has two X-men titles for Tweens, with one just starting this week, and Viz has a new manga targeted for girls. It’s nice to see such diversity. It would be even nicer to see it more often.

Uncanny X-Men First Class #1 – Another entry into the "First Class" series and the second for the X-men, this mini series features the second generation of the X-men. Cyclops, Phoenix, Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Banshee and Wolverine all star in this team that was formed to rescue the original X-men. Like the other "First Class" titles, it features stories about the team’s early days. Xavier has invited the mysterious Inhumans into the X-men’s home, and almost immediately there are problems. This team makeup is what helped make Uncanny X-men a hit back in the early 80′s and this is the perfect chance to not only relive those old memories for older fans but also introduce a whole new audience to some great characters.
Choco Mimi GN vol 1 – This is a new all ages title from Viz that’s directed at the girls. Most of Viz’s all ages titles have been for boys or both boys and girls, but Choco Mimi has a lot of elements that mostly just girls will enjoy. The story is not drawn like the usual manga, but in 4-koma, or 4 panels, similar to newspaper comic strips. It follows Choco and Mimi, two 8th grade girls that are best friends. They’re into the things you’d expect an 8th girl to be into; fashion, crafts, and boys. The book also features simple crafts, fashion suggestions and receipes. It’s an intriguing title that seems perfect for it target audience.
