Inside Good Comics For Kids

Links: Amulet, slapstick, and a podcast

Zack Smith talks to Kazu Kibuishi about Amulet 2 at Newsarama.

Noah Berlatsky discusses the slapstick creations of Mo Willems at The Hooded Utilitarian, where I will be joining the regular crew for a roundtable on kid’s comics this week.

The new Comics Playground podcast is up, and it includes reviews and coverage of Heroes Con.

Tracy Edmunds, who most recently reviewed all-ages comics for Newsarama, has joined The Graphic Classroom. If you’re not already reading this excellent site, which includes reviews and discussion of comics and education, now is a great time to start.

The Wenham Museum in Wenham, MA, has a nice, kid-friendly comics show up through Sept. 15. The local paper covers it nicely, and you’ll be reading more about it soon because several of your intrepid Good Comics for Kids bloggers made a field trip there today. (Link via Jay Piscopo, who will be doing a workshop there on July 23.)

Archie news: Singer Colbie Caillat will be invading Veronica #196 and getting mixed up with the gang in one way or another. I particularly like it that the press release has bios of both Colbie and Archie, as if Archie were a real person. (Solicitation and a preview are here.) Also in the works: IDW will be doing some nice collected editions of the original Bob Montana Archie comics. For more immediate gratification, check out the latest preview of Betty and Veronica Spectacular. And writer and artist Fernando Ruiz will be at the East Hanover Comic Book Expo on July 26.

Bone creator Jeff Smith will be a guest of honor at the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo next year.
