Inside Good Comics For Kids

Links: Two early holiday gifts

Whatever holiday you’re celebrating this month, here’s a couple treats from the world of kids comics that will bring you a little bit of joy.

Jeff Smith has announced that there will be a full-color one volume of the entire Bone series coming in 2011. If you were at San Diego Comic-Con back when he released the b&w one volume edition, the line-ups were pure madness. This is a special treat for Bone fans, young and old.

Free Comic Book Day may be months away but announcements have been made for the Silver-level books and there’s plenty of great kids comics, from Sonic the Hedgehog to a DC Universe sampler including Young Justice and Batman: Brave and the Bold stories. My ‘must-have’ pics here include:
– Rated Free For Everyone (Oni Press) includes previews of two upcoming books, Power Lunch, about a boy who gets powers from the foods he eats by J. Torres and Dean Trimpe and Sketch Monsters, about a girl who must use her imagination to stop a giant booger monster from the team that brought you Dear Dracula: Joshua Williamson and Vicente Navarrete.
– Top Shelf Kids Club (Top Shelf Comix) debuts three new series for kids including Okie Dokie Donuts by Chris Eliopoulos, Pirate Penguin vs. Ninja Chicken by Ray Friesen, and Upside Down by Jess Smart Smiley.

There are also some excellent Gold-level books kids will enjoy including Betty and Veronica, Geronimo Stilton/Smurfs, Avatar: The Last Airbender/Star Wars: Clone Wars and others.

This year Free Comic Book Day is on Saturday, May 7th, 2011.
