The second Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo, a.k.a. C2E2, is taking place this weekend, and Brigid Alverson will be there, chatting up creators, talking to publishers, and finding out what kid- and teen-friendly comics are in the pipeline. If you’re also planning to attend the show, be sure to check out Chris Sims’ helpful guide to the show’s “best and weirdest” events, from a Last Airbender panel hosted by Avatar_Mom to a regulation quidditch match. (N.B. Not all listed events are appropriate for kids.)

In other convention news, the 2011 Tokyo International Anime Fair has been canceled. Organizers cited power and transportation shortages caused by last week’s earthquake as the reason. The popular event, which attracts over 100,000 attendees, was already the subject of a boycott by ten of Japan’s biggest manga publishers, who were protesting the recent passage of a statute restricting manga sales to minors.

Inkstuds host Robin McConnell interviews Aaron Renier, creator of Spiral Bound and The Unsinkable Walker Bean.

Over at The Graphic Classroom, Ellen Ma chats with college writing instructor Rex Ganding about incorporating graphic novels into the curriculum.

Our own Lori Henderson, a.k.a. Manga Mom, wonders if VIZ Media has scrapped plans to re-release Pokemon Magical Journeys in a new, unflipped edition.

And speaking of VIZ Media, they’ll be releasing volume four of Bakuman digitally before the print edition reaches stores. VIZ has also added several new titles to their iTunes storefront, including Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan and Rosario + Vampire.
