Two classic comics properties are back, with new content and a new look.
ICv2 reports that Ape Entertainment will launch two Richie Rich series this fall. Ape, which also publishes the Strawberry Shortcake comics and the creator-owned comic Scratch 9, tested the waters with a four-issue Richie Rich miniseries and have now decided to do an ongoing Richie Rich comic with new material. Richie Rich: Rich Rescue will be released in November and will be listed as issue #5, to continue the numbering of the miniseries. Richie Rich GEMS will reprint classic stories from the old Harvey comics, and each issue will also include a new comic by Sid Jacobson and Ernie Colon (best known for their work on a very different book, The 9/11 Report: A Graphic Adapatation). Reflecting its heritage, the GEMS series will start numbering with #44, picking up where the original Richie Rich series left off.
Meanwhile, creator Chris Reilly announced on his blog that he has written a new Gumby comic, a one-shot to be published by Gumby Comics. I can’t possibly improve on their capsule description, so here it is:
There’s a new player in Clokeyville, an off-kilt philanthropist named Mr. Golfer! What is Golfer’s secret? What are the Wooly Mammals? Why are there astronauts selling the founding fathers the Andrew Jackson? Who stole Picnic Park? Who is helping the nefarious Blockheads? And most importantly, how did Gumby become King of the Pirates?
The comic is illustrated by Jorge Santillan and will be available in comics stores in early September.

Gumby one shot by Chris Reilly and Jorge Santillan:
“really well-drawn, lots of fun, and just plain terrific. Highly recommended!”
