Jinx is a grown-up version of an older Archie comic, Little Jinx, that was a favorite of mine when I was a kid. In the original, Jinx was a mischievous six-year-old who often sparred with her father; now she is a teenager and the sparring has gotten a little more serious—but only a little. Writers J. Torres (Alison Dare, Lola: A Ghost Story) and illustrators Rick Burchett and Terry Austin keep the tone light, so that Jinx reads like a smarter version of a teenage sitcom.
The book is due out in the spring, but Torres and the Archie folks are at the American Library Association’s midwinter meeting this weekend to show it around. For those who can’t make it, here’s a sample. Enjoy!
