Zita la Fille de lEspace 216x300 Famliar titles on the Angouleme shortlist

The Angoulême International Comics Festival (or, to call it by its proper name, the Festival International de la Bande Dessinee) is the largest comics festival in Europe and the second largest in the world. It truly is an international festival, drawing guests and attendees from all over the world. The festival has its own awards, and the shortlists include a number of books that should be familiar to Good Comics for Kids readers: The Youth Selections include Paul Pope’s Battling Boy and Ben Hatke’s Zita the Spacegirl, both from First Second, and the official selection features Annie Sullivan and the Trials of Helen Keller and the monstrously popular Attack on Titan, along with My Friend Dahmer, which made it on to quite a few YA lists last year. Since all the nominees are published in France, it’s interesting to see what books make it over there—and how the covers and titles change in translation. The festival takes place on January 30-February 2, 2014, and awards will be announced at that time.
