YALSA Announces 2019 Great Graphic Novels for Teens

The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) has announced their 2019 list of Great Graphic Novels for Teens. This is a list of around 90 titles and series recommended for ages 12 to 18 by professional librarians. It includes fiction, non-fiction, manga, superhero titles, humor, and educational works.

The top ten choices are (with links to titles we’ve reviewed here at Good Comics for Kids):

Anne Frank’s Diary: The Graphic Adaptation by Anne Frank, Ari Folman, and David Polonsky (Pantheon)

Hey, Kiddo: How I Lost My Mother, Found My Father, and Dealt With Family Addiction by Jarrett Krosoczka (Graphix)

The Unwanted: Stories of the Syrian Refugees by Don Brown (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt)

Crush by Svetlana Chmakova (JY)

Illegal by Eoin Colfer, Andrew Donkin, and Giovanni Rigano (Sourcebooks Jabberwocky)

My Brother’s Husband, Volume 2 by Gengoroh Tagame (Pantheon Books)

On a Sunbeam by Tillie Walden (First Second)
