The Picks:

Sweetie 1Sweetie #1 – A self-taught superhero swings into action, and into high school in this new series from Action Lab Entertainment. Maggie is a big fan of comic books, cartoon, and action movies. So much so, that through keen observation and unbending determination, she has taught herself all the death-defying stunts and fighting styles of her favorite action stars and superheroes! Until now, it’s just been an eccentric hobby she’s kept to herself, since only nerds are into the whole superheroes and evil villain stuff. But, when Maggie has a run-in with an evil mastermind and his sinister mercenary group the day before she begins high school, it becomes something more. With all her years of training, it’s up to this socially awkward girl to become the self-taught superhero the city needs. Sweetie balances the thrill of an action hero story with a slice of life that both readers young and old will enjoy.

Wings of Fire 2Wings Of Fire Volume 2 The Lost Heir GN – Graphix brings another tween novel series to sequential-art life.Tsunami was stolen from the royal hatchery of the Seawing kingdom as an egg, and raised by rebels as part of a prophecy. She and the other dragonets have escaped and now head under water to the her home. Tsunami is eager to reunite with her mother, Queen Coral and meet her future subjects, but all isn’t quite right in the under sea kingdom. While Queen Coral welcomes them with open wings, a mysterious assassin, who has been killing off the queen’s heirs for years, now has Tsunami in their sights. The dragonets came to the SeaWings for protection, but instead find secrets, betrayal, and maybe even death. Written by one of the collaborators of the Warriors novels, Wings of Fire brings middle school readers all the action and drama wrapped in a dragon-filled fantasy world.
