Preview: Just Beyond: Welcome to Beast Island

Cover of Just Beyond: Welcome to Beast Island

Halloween is coming, so it’s time for some scary stories! Today we have an exclusive preview of Just Beyond: Welcome to Beast Island, the latest graphic novel from R.L. Stine, the master of middle-grade horror. The artists for this graphic novel, which was announced here last February, are Kelly and Nichole Matthews (Pandora’s Legacy), the letterer is Mike Fiorentino, and the cover is by Julian Totino Tedesco (Life of Captain Marvel). Here’s what’s going on:

Trips to exotic islands can be more exhausting than relaxing sometimes, and on the island of Mala Suerte, they’re a real beast! Karla and her little brother Benny accompany their Uncle Bill on a scientific expedition to study unidentified species on the remote island, but after a little “bad luck” they soon discover something terrifying and deadly living in the river swamp… With nowhere to run, will Karla, Benny, and Uncle Bill survive the unimaginable and harrowing horrors of the place aptly nicknamed BEAST ISLAND?

This is the latest in the “Just Beyond” series that Stine, the creator of the Goosebumps and Fear Street prose series, is creating for BOOM! Studios, which is publishing the graphic novels under their KaBOOM! imprint. The first book in the series, Just Beyond: The Secret of Scare School, came out last year.

Just Beyond: Welcome to Beast Island will go on sale on October 21 in comic shops and October 27 in bookstores, but you can start reading right now with our five-page preview. Enjoy!
