Inside Heavy Medal

It’s decided!….

…but we don’t know. Roxanne Feldman does (member of the committee) but she’s not telling. She’s snuggling up with her phone and the new Kiki Strike, copyright 2013.

  1. Sherry P. says:

Peter Sieruta, it’s not the same without you, miss those late night e-mails. RIP.

  2. Nina Lindsay says:

We’ve been talking about Peter at the conference too. Keeps him close.

All day yesterday at meal functions, the single conversation was ” what are your predictions?” Amazing that somehow we (even me!) don’t seem tired of the question. When you’re with new people, the question is new.

And it was making me think a little more about the “right book” nail splitting happening in the last post. Though of course I want the awards to be announced, I kind of savor these last hours, because we’re looking at a happy version of Schrondinger’s Box. Right now….there are many “right” possibilities for the Newbery…and there is only the actual one. They exist simultaneously, both truths, until we open the box. Then the door between the possible universes closes, and we go in one direction….but all of us who saw and remembered all of those possibilities can make sure each one finds their right place in this particular universe.

Ok, and if you ARE done with possibilities for now, and you’re up early and twiddling your thumbs, and you haven’t seen it up, watch MARCH OF THE LIBRARIANS. It was filmed last time ALA was here in Seattle.

  3. Nina Lindsay says:

(we’re in the room now and waiting, and trying to guess what the expressions on various publishers’ faces mean…. You’ll be hearing from Jonathan with a post once the awards are all announced!)

  4. Now everyone knows what only 15 people knew on Saturday night… 🙂 Congratulations to ALL winning titles and also so so so thankful for a year of riches and excellence. So many books that did not make it to the final few are still worthy of reading, discussing, enjoying, sharing, and treasuring.
