SL for TLs: Time to get your avatar’s feet wet
(Doug Johnson’s Fair Use presentation in SL, 4/14/08)
Lisa Perez (aka Elaine Tulip) posted this exciting opportunity on ISTE’s SIGMS list yesterday.
If you’ve been hesitant (or even downright scared) to learn about or join this flourishing virtual world, or if you want to further explore its potential for our profession, this is your time.
We have a slate of meetings scheduled in Second Life to assist librarians in becoming oriented to the virtual reality environment and to provide a forum for networking and collaboration. The first orientation meeting is next Tuesday, Sept 9th. Attendees will meet with experienced SLers to learn the basics of communicating, navigating, and exploring Second Life.
The first Librarian Learning Community meeting is Tuesday, Sept 16th and the topic will be “Web 2.0 Technologies." Please come and share your experiences in integrating technologies into your library program. These meetings have been organized in a collaboration between AASL and ISTE SIGMS. September meetings will be held at the American Library Association Island. Any interested person is invited to join us. For more information about this program, start times, and joining Second Life, see the AASL–SIGMS Second Life Calendar.
Lisa is excited about the AASL and SIGMS joint project
in using Second Life as a collaboration technology. It will allow librarians everywhere to come together in real time to discuss with each other the relevant issues of our profession, to foster networking, and to connect with other members of our professional organizations.
