Green Wikia
My students’ research projects and their after-school clubs are trending decidedly green.
Because I am always looking to feed them cool sources and new ideas for activities, I was delighted to discover Green Wikia.
Launched in March, the wiki currently offers 714 articles organized under such categories as:
- Sustainable living
- Environmental issues
- Science and technology
- How to
- Green Movement (with selected blogs)
- Go local
There’s proud bias here. Green Wikia is written from an admittedly green point of view and focused on potential citizen action:
Green Wikia strives to become a trusted central place to share our growing and evolving body of knowledge about environmental topics and issues with people who want to inform themselves and live in a more sustainable way.
The Green Wikia community also believes that the threats to our environment are real and that they require action. However, the wiki also strives to foster a community where respectful debate and informed viewpoints can be heard.
Our students can use, as well as contribute to the building of this source and it presents yet another way to model the power of 2.0 tools for creating community and practicing citizenship.
