100 Years 100 Films (from the NAACP)
If you are interested in enriching your collection of multicultural films, or want to be better prepared to recommend solid film choices to learners and teachers, the NAACP’s Top 100 Films of the Century: 1909–2009 is a must visit.
From “Stormy Weather” to “Dreamgirls”, the pageant of moving images created to illuminate the lives of people of color, has made a significant contribution to our culture and left an indelible mark on the 20th century.
The site describes its purpose:
Every film has the power to influence how we see ourselves and our world. Each film captures a little piece of history, a unique view of life and projects it on the Big Screen. And those pictures, whether beautiful, funny or haunting challenge the audience to see, feel and dream.
To celebrate a century of people of color, primarily African Americans, in film, we’ve gathered hundreds of movies together and now invite you to make your voice heard. Starting February 12, 2009, you can rate your favorites and help us compile a list of the NAACP Top 100 Films of the Century.
