AASL’s Best Websites for Teaching and Learning
One of the most exciting revelations at ALA last week was the Sunday panel that unveiled the inaugural AASL’s Best Websites for Teaching and Learning. (If there was a Newbery kinda ceremony for the techie in many of us, this was it!)
The Best Websites for Teaching and Learning honors websites, tools, and resources of exceptional value to inquiry-based teaching and learning as embodied in the American Association of School Librarians’ Standards for the 21st-Century Learner.
"Top 25" Web sites foster the qualities of innovation, creativity, active participation, and collaboration. They are free, Web-based sites that are user friendly and encourage a community of learners to explore and discover.
Led by Taskforce Chair, Pam Berger, the panel introduced, demonstrated, and shared each tool with a tip for its use in education.
The 25 Best Websites were divided into following categories:
Social Networking and Communication
In addition to the 25 Best, Pam and her team also revealed the Landmark Websites for Teaching and Learning, honored for
their exemplary histories of authoritative, dynamic content and curricular relevance. They are free, web-based sites that are user friendly and encourage a community of learners to explore and discover and provide a foundation to support 21st-century teaching and learning.
The site features additional materials:
