Google Chart Tools
Google just introduced its new Chart Tools.
The Google Chart API is an extremely simple tool that lets you easily create a chart from some data and embed it in a webpage. You embed the data and formatting parameters in an HTTP request, and Google returns a PNG image of the chart. Many types of chart are supported, and by making the request into an image tag you can simply include the chart in a webpage.
Charts come in two embeddable flavors: Image Charts (Google Chart API) and Interactive Charts (Google Visualization API). Interestingly, a chart compares the two tools.
The Chart Gallery includes the following options:
- Bar Charts
- Box Charts
- Candlestick Charts
- Compound Charts
- Dynamic Icons
- Formulas
- Google-O-Meter Charts
- Line Charts
- Map Charts
- Pie Charts
- QR Codes
- Radar Charts
- Scatter Charts
- Venn Charts
Note: Google Chart Tools are not for those seeking instant chart gratification. These charts are going to require a little programming talent. Share them with your computer and math teachers and offer learners opportunities and challenges to create with data. The Google folks warn:
To use this API, you should have a little HTML experience; a little patience to read the documentation; and a little persistence to keep trying if your first charts don’t look as you expect them to.
Check here for alternative charting, graphing, and visual imaging or the non-programming types.
