There should be something of a peripheral requirement I think - the ability to utilize "real-world" technology to create audiovisual digital expressions of the library and for students.

By this I mean using screen capture to help articulate presentations, mics to participate in digital chats, digital cameras and relevant editing software, ability to incorporate video into presentations, and most currently the understanding of how cell phones are creeping into the educational picture.

Insert what you'd like, but while we can rely on what's already out there, as you've done with your own students Joyce, mastering ways of capturing your own reality and sharing it with others creatively seems to be an increasingly important ability to create your own digital footprint and help students with theirs.

GREAT! I'm struggling with what tools to teach undergrad preservice teachers in an already established course with too much content. Much of what you say here applies to all educators and it has helped me think about the most important caategories and tools. Of course, they need to know that school librarians will be there to assist--and you're helping to make sure they can support new teachers with many of these tools. Thanks so much!

I would add the ability and willingness to push administrators, district IT staff and teachers to also accept, embrace and allow these applications and concepts in the classroom.
