In the district I left, which no longer has any &quot;real&quot; librarians, just aides, the middle school aide insists on filling her library with items that are not appropriate for middle schoolers--e.g., Gerald&#039;s Game by King and Speak (even though Speak is in the high school curriculum).  She says that &quot;this is real life and kids need to read about real life.&quot;  A core collection would mean that at least she&#039;d have some middle school titles.</description>
