Slido + Google Slides: I’ve been searching for this solution!
For years I’ve been trying to find a solution for creating interactive presentations without having to leave my platform of personal choice, Google Slides.
For years, I’ve McGuyvered solutions which involved bringing my created slides into another platform. (If you’ve ever seen one of my slide-heavy presentations, you know that is not a real solution.) I’ve also run two platforms at the same time, not so agilely flipping between them.
With Slido’s new Chrome extension and Google Slides Add-on, the insanity is finally over. I’ve been testing this out for my upcoming AASL presentation and I love what I see.

The free version of Slido allows users to easily add live polls and collect questions to Slides from the sidebar without leaving the presentation.. Simply, click on Add-ons on the Slides toolbar, select Slido for Google Slides and click on Open the sidebar. You may then chose to Create a live poll or Display Q&A directly from the sidebar.
Your presentation, and any included media, remain intact and you can customize the Slido slides to match your presentation style. When it’s time to share, you do it with one single, customizable event code for all presentation interactions, allowing participants to seamlessly participate on phones, tablets or laptops.
This week Slido added an Quizzes feature to add an element of competition to presentations. Quizzes includes, or will include, the following elements:
- Leaderboard
Display top players and scores once participants answer all questions. - Timer (coming soon)
Add a bit of pressure by setting a time limit for answering a question. - Hardest questions
Discover the toughest questions and reveal their success rate
For many out there, the free basic plan would be fine. For each event, it allows for crowdsourced questions, three polls and the ability to engage in one idea brainstorm with up to 1000 participants.
Of course, I found this solution so easy and so useful, that I wanted MORE. If you’re like me, you will want to consider signing up, or getting your school or district to sign up for a Slido EDU Plan, where you would get a bunch of nifty additions and resources.
The Slido/Slides integration serves as a handy tool for formative assessments as well as presentations, lessons and workshops. I can easily see any Google-using teacher or school finding this an essential add-on.
