Innovators Who Connect the Library and Classroom to be Honored: Call for Entries
Columbus, OH, January 24, 2008 – Entries are being accepted now for the first annual International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Special Interest Group (SIG) Media Specialist Technology Innovation Award, sponsored by Linworth Publishing, Inc./Library Media Connection and Follett Software Company. The award will be presented to two teams consisting of a school librarian and collaborating teacher who have conducted an exemplary technology program extending beyond the library to meet the needs of classroom students and teachers.
The purpose of the ISTE SIG Media Specialist Technology Innovation Award is to identify, promote, and sustain excellence in collaborative and innovative technology-based projects driven by the school library media center in support of curricular and instructional needs in elementary and secondary schools. “We intend to use this award to identify and then disseminate information about best collaborative practices in education today,” said Peggy Milam Creighton, Chair of ISTE’s Special Interest Group for Media Specialists (SIGMS).
“School library professional membership involvement in ISTE is growing. The opportunity to work with these innovative educators, and to publicize their effective technology projects fits within the mission of Library Media Connection magazine and our book publishing activity,” commented Publisher Marlene Woo-Lun.
Awardees will be notified in April and awards will be presented at ISTE’s 2008 National Educational Computing Conference (NECC) being held in San Antonio, June 29 through July 2. In addition, winners will receive:
- A one-year membership to ISTE (2 per team)
- Be featured in an article by Library Media Connection and Learning & Leading with Technology magazines
- $1,000 cash award payable to the school media center (1 per team)
- $500 NECC travel stipend, if attending NECC, for each team
- NECC registration for each team member, if attending NECC
- $1000 professional library from Linworth Publishing (1 per team)
- A one-year subscription to Library Media Connection magazine (1 per person)
- A plaque (one per team)
- Promotional opportunities
Applications will be judged by a panel of educators selected from the ISTE SIGMS plus a Linworth Publishing/LMC editor.
