Clarification: When I mentioned state award lists, I was referring specifically to lists generated for students to read and vote for their favorites, not regimented quality reviewed award lists. Student interest, familiarity with authors, and easier approachability and readability factor much higher. A little controversy always helps.

Also, I need to know if you think it's unfair to expect authors to update their websites. I heard several complain about this while wandering around the SLJ summit.

I love how we can all disagree on titles. We found this an easier read because of the obvious plotting. Students were able to read quickly and we could discuss the big topics. So, answer the question highlighted. Weren't you horrified and wondering what the author was thinking in the ending (or near ending) with what James did?

Interesting review. I had the opposite reaction, that it was only a 3-star (of five) read thanks to all the coincidences and the obvious plotting. Fairrosa agreed (go to GoodReads to see her comments).

It will be interesting to see how more react to it, including students.
