It’s Nice to Say Hello
You have no idea the pressure of a first post.
On the one hand, it’s not really a first-first post. I’ve been blogging at A Chair, A Fireplace & A Tea Cozy on Blogger for over five years.
On the other hand, it is my first post here, at School Library Journal. So I want it to be perfect. Or, at least, without major typos.
Let’s start with me. I’m Liz Burns; I’m a children’s and teen services librarian from New Jersey. Here and on Twitter, I’m LizB. For shorthand, I call my blog Tea Cozy.
What do I blog about? My original April 2005 Welcome post at Tea Cozy said I like the show Buffy the Vampire Slayer and that I like to talk about story, whether the story is in a book, a television show, or a movie.

That is still true today, except I’m more focused now, and I will be blogging primarily about books and other media for teenagers. Or, as the cool kids at YALSA say, “young adults.” I’ll also be blogging about other things of interest that are book and book blog related, such as the kidlitosphere and young adult book bloggers. You can see a bit of my taste for books by looking at the sidebar of my blogger blog, which has yearly lists of my favorite books. I’ll be figuring out how to bring those lists (or at least the most recent one) over here.
My librarian credentials includes serving on the 2009 Printz Committee (Jellicoe Road) and the 2010 Schneider Family Book Award Committee. With Sophie Brookover, I co-wrote the book Pop Goes the Library: Using Pop Culture to Connect With Your Whole Community.
SLJ readers my recognize my name (and photo) from when I was included on the famous November 2009 Cover, This Blog’s For You. With Carlie Webber, I co-wrote When Harry Met Bella: Fanfiction is all the rage. But is it plagiarism? Or the perfect thing to encourage young writers? from SLJ’s August 2009 issue. Back in 2007, under a different hair cut and color, I wrote Curl Up with a Cup of Tea and a Good Blog.
And right now, I just want the first date, er, first post, to end so we can have that “hi, who are you, my favorite color is blue, what’s your major” talk behind us and get to the good stuff.
Now the only pressure is deciding what book review to post tomorrow.
