Thank you for this wonderful, intriguing review. I hadn’t heard of it, but I picked it up yesterday (thanks to your words) and immediately fell head-over-heels. Illyria is about to be my first read-again novel this year! Lovely. Just lovely.

Mira, the ending, it was in a way so magical, the mix of reality and hope and the return of longing. When I first read it, I kept on thinking “now it will stop…” and was so surprised by how far in time Hand went.

Thank you for telling us about this book. I went to the library and read the entire book from cover to cover without stopping. I could not stop. I then researched Twelfth Night -
that is next on my list. Like Colleen and Liz, I thought the ending was wonderful – but only in hindsight. I was devastated by the ending. It was believable and predictable but
I was so engaged and emotionally incvolved with the characters that I wanted to do something to prevent the inevitable. I especially loved the cover art – magical.

Michelle & Charlotte, it’ll be interesting to read your reviews. While I’ve read other people loving it, some people cannot get over things like the length and the cousins. I believe one criticism was the failure to name all the main character’s sisterters, for example.

Colleen, I love the ending — it managed to be both what I expected & feared & what I couldn’t imagine and was pleasantlly surprised by.

Did I ever love this one – BIG love for it! I especially liked the ending; that Hand went forward in time and showed us just how everything played out years later. The whole thing is amazing though and I haven’t stopped thinking about it either. It’s a great book for writers on good writing, that’s for sure.

I already have this one on my TBR but if I didn’t the fact that it’s one of your favorites for 2010 would certainly compel me to add it. Looking forward to reading it.
